Model based development is a key factor to face future development challenges. The powertrain is getting more and more complex (e.g. hybrid systems, exhaust aftertreatment systems). Much more development effort to fulfill actual and future emission legislation like the introduction of RDE (Real Driving Emissions) is needed.
Simulation models are offering the possibility to advance the development fast and cost efficient due to reduced amount of prototypes and test laboratories.
Models starting from the small scope like single components over the powertrain to the complete vehicle are used. To simulate real driving conditions, even models of the driver and the environment like the road and traffic conditions are used.
